Frequently asked questions
Is this a self-employed mechanic job? +
Yes. The role is self-employed subcontract work. You choose which jobs to accept. You handle your own tax and National Insurance through Self Assessment.
How much do I earn per job? +
You keep 70% of the labour charge on every job we pass to you. We keep 30% to cover finding the customer, quoting and booking the work.
Which areas would I cover? +
You cover Reading and nearby towns such as Wokingham, Newbury, Basingstoke, Bracknell, Tilehurst, Caversham, Earley and Woodley. We send work close to your home postcode first.
What kind of jobs come in? +
Jobs cover servicing, diagnostics, brakes, batteries, starter motors, alternators, clutches and timing belts. Customers book online or by phone. We describe each job before you accept it.
Do I need to find my own customers? +
No. We run the website and take the enquiries. You get booked jobs and can focus on the repair.
Is the work full time or part time? +
You decide. Customers book Monday to Saturday from 8am to 6pm. You can take jobs every day or only on the days that suit you.
Do you take trainee or apprentice mechanics? +
No. This role needs an NVQ Level 3 or IMI qualification because you work alone at the customer's home. Trainees are better suited to a garage apprenticeship.

Yes. Diagnostic and fault jobs start with a fault code scan. A scanner that reads live data across engine, ABS and airbag systems is part of the tool kit you bring.
